National Donut Day: These 5 Greater Columbus shops are offering deals, giveaways

Doughnut lovers, rejoice! For those who enjoy the fried confections, Friday brings a sweet treat — National Donut Day.

Whether you spell it "donuts" or "doughnuts," numerous shops will be offering freebies and discounts for the day.

The big chains like Dunkin' Donuts are offering one free donut when customers buy a beverage, according to USA Today.

Krispy Kreme allows customers to get a free doughnut of their choice — no purchase necessary. For those buying for a large group, they can purchase a dozen doughnuts or 16 minis and get a dozen glazed for just $1.

At Tim Horton's, customers who register for Tim's Rewards and buy a doughnut through the Tim's app or online can unlock a free doughnut. The deal is good through Sunday.

But for those who are more interested in visiting their local doughnut shops, here are five places around Greater Columbus that are having their own deals for National Donut Day.

The family-run business, which is known for its made-to-order doughnuts, is offering 15% off online orders. Customers must have a minimum order amount of $30 to receive the deal and use the code word "donuts."

Dragon Donuts operates two locations: 4100 Worth Ave. at Easton Town Center and 1288 W. 5th Ave. in the Fifth by Northwest neighborhood.

The doughnut shop, located at 1400 Dublin Road in Columbus, is offering a free vanilla bean old-fashioned doughnut at three partner locations Friday: the Chocolate Café locations in Fifth by Northwest and German Village and Crimson Cup in Clintonville.

Customers can also get one free doughnut for online orders Friday and Saturday using the code FREENDD. There will be two limited-edition flavors available for only those two days: Cherry Butter Cake Old Fashioned and Don't Be Cruller, Cruller.
