Spurs fans react to team clinching NBA play-in spot over Lakers
The stars aligned the night of Tuesday, April 5 for the San Antonio Spurs. Thanks to a win at the Denver Nuggets, and the Phoenix Suns defeating the Los Angeles Lakers, the Spurs are officially heading to the NBA's play-in tournament.
The play-ins consist of four teams vying for the seventh and eighth playoff spot for each NBA conference.
This is the Spurs' second year in a row making the play-in tournament.
They lost to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2021. The Spurs last officially made the playoffs in 2019. The Lakers are missing the playoffs for the first time since 2019.
After fate was decided on Tuesday night, San Antonio Spurs fans overwhelmingly took to Twitter to gloat over the Spurs skeptics and celebrate the news.
For local fans interested in watching the Silver and Black play their final game of the 2021-22 regular season, the team is hosting a watch party at Smoke BBQ+Skybar on Sunday, April 10.
The Spurs play at the Dallas Mavericks. Fans can expect food, free drinks, the Spurs Hype Squad, a visit from the Spurs Coyote, and more. The watch party begins at 8 p.m., with tip-off at 8:30 p.m.
