WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Carmella wins Raw women's title opportunity at Money in the Bank

With just weeks to go until the Money in the Bank event, WWE did a lot of heavy lifting during Raw on Monday night.

In the headline moment, it was announced that Rhea Ripley was not medically cleared for her planned title challenge against Raw women's champion Bianca Belair, leaving a big spot needing to be filled.

Carmella would be the woman to get the newly available opportunity, winning a fatal five-way to kick off the show and cement her spot in the title match on July 2 in Las Vegas.

Another title match was added to Money in the Bank, with Bobby Lashley beating Chad Gable, Otis and Theory in one night to earn a shot at Theory's United States title at the upcoming event.

CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Bianca Belair receives a new Money in the Bank title challenger Bianca Belair opened the show with an announcement that Rhea Ripley was not medically cleared for their match at Money in the Bank for Belair's Raw women's championship.

Belair then announced that Alexa Bliss, Liv Morgan, Carmella, Asuka and Becky Lynch would compete later in the night for a shot at the title at Money in the Bank. This led to the expected parade of interruptions from the women involved in the match.

Carmella def. Alexa Bliss, Liv Morgan, Asuka & Becky Lynch via pinfall after hitting Morgan with a superkick. The win puts Carmella in the Raw women's title match at Money in the Bank. Of note, Carmella was the inaugural winner of a women's Money in the Bank match, making the event something of her "trademark show."

Carmella made some sense as the choice to face Belair here. Her presence isn't needed in the ladder match at Money in the Bank and she is just legitimate enough given her history to make a fine late-replacement challenger.

A Carmella title challenge is not likely to get anyone excited or bring the same sense of a possible title change that Ripley provided, but sometimes you just need a patch to go over a hole left by an injury. That's what Carmella is. Grade: B-
